Nordic Bride Practices

When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it’s important to pay attention to some of the livelier practices. We asked bridal planner Mariella Gink to offer us the dirt on some of Sweden’s distinct conventions.

Before spouses in Viking days, the bride may consider a bath to cleanse herself and spiritually rinse apart her female. Then she would jump into warm waters to symbolize the transition into woman. Her hair was moreover a big deal. She do weave it into elaborate braids to reflect her masculinity, and the more sophisticated her locks were, the better it boded for the few. The brides may wear a tunic and trousers made of wool or fabric. They may even take their weapons.

In Norse traditions, it was common for people to send each of their visitors home with products. This is a convention that carries on today. It is common to see a product register at Swedish ceremonies, but it’s not the norm to acquire huge economic contributions, as most people can afford to get themselves a current.

After the festival, it’s time to honor! Swedish weddings are known for their long, expound breakfast factions. The evening may involve from eight to 12 remarks, checks of movies swedish women for marriage from the bachelor and bachelorette parties, games and songs. A friend of the couple is usually designated master of ceremonies to coordinate all the entertainment.

Another quirky Scandinavian wedding tradition is that whenever the groom or bride leaves a room for any reason, other men will line up to kiss them. This is one of our favorite things to capture on camera as a photographer because it’s so funny!
